While exploring diverse regions of Kenya, you actively participate in helping rhino, rescued elephants and local communities. A donation is also made to care for orphaned elephants at Reteti Elephant Sanctuary. On this itinerary, guests will visit the Reteti Elephant Sanctuary, where they will be paired with an elephant keeper and given a behind the scenes tour of the sanctuary. Watch the elephants as they receive their bottles and play in the mud, all the while learning valuable skills, so that they might be re-introduced into the wild.
Day 1 - Arrive Nairobi
Jambo na Karibu! Welcome to Nairobi, or the “place of cool waters” in the Maasai language. On arrival you will be met by a Lion World Travel representative and you will be transferred to Emakoko lodge.
The Emakoko is a family owned, boutique lodge uniquely positioned on the edge of the Nairobi National Park. Enjoy coffee by the pool overlooking the river, or the park sunsets with a cocktail in hand. The owners who live on-site are committed to the preservation and protection of the park and to the local communities that border it.

Day 2 - Nairobi
Enjoy a morning game drive followed by touring in the sprawling capital city of Nairobi.

Day 3 - Nairobi / Namunyak Wildlife Conservancy
After an early breakfast, transfer to Wilson Airport for your scheduled flight to the Samburu airstrip. On arrival you will be met and transferred by road to Sarara.
Please Note: Luggage restrictions on the Kenya light aircraft transfer flights is 15kg/33lbs in soft bags – including hand luggage. This applies to touring vehicles in some cases too.
Sarara is located in the vast Namunyak Wildlife Conservancy of northern Kenya, with views of the Matthews Mountain Range. The luxurious tents are spacious with high ceilings, electric lighting, en suite bathroom, adjacent outdoor shower and a private terrace overlooking the conservancy and mountain range.
The main area offers communal dining, and the swimming pool has a view of Mount Uarges, one of the seven sacred mountains to the Samburu.
Resident game include elephant, buffalo, leopard, bushbuck and a wide array of other life. Meet your ranger for an afternoon game drive exploring the conservancy’s landscape and varied wildlife. Be sure to watch for leopard, wild dog and reticulated giraffe.

Day 4 - Namunyak Wildlife Conservancy
Namunyak is home to the Reteti Elephant Sanctuary. On today’s visit you are paired with an elephant keeper and given a behind the scenes tour of the sanctuary. Watch the elephants as they receive their bottles and play in the mud, all the while learning valuable skills, so that they might be re-introduced into the wild. Cap off the day with a night game drive in search of nocturnal species.

Day 5 - Namunyak Wildlife Conservancy
Enjoy morning and afternoon game drives and take in some of the culture of the Samburu people. During the dry season (July to October) visit the unique singing wells to observe the warriors as they chant and collect water for their cattle. Co-existing with the wildlife, this semi-nomadic pastoralist tribe is an intrinsic part of this remote wilderness.

Day 6 - Namunyak Wildlife Conservancy / Maasai Mara
After breakfast, transfer to the Samburu airstrip and board your scheduled flight to the Maasai Mara. On arrival you will be met and transferred by road to Governor’s Il Moran Camp.

On arrival at the camp airstrip, you will be met and transferred to the camp.
Governors' Il Moran Camp is located in a riverine forest along the banks of the Mara River, in the heart of the Maasai Mara Game Reserve. Each luxury canvas tent enjoys a private location from which to enjoy the beautiful setting.
The open-air bar, dining and lounge area are set along the riverfront. Dinner is served by candlelight on the open deck.

Day 7 - Maasai Mara
Each day in the Mara will be dramatically different. Lions, leopards, cheetahs, large numbers of elephants and other plains game, countless birds and smaller animals frequent the Mara’s grasslands.

Day 8 - Maasai Mara
Observe the Mara’s cycle of life slowly unfold. Drive along the banks of the Mara River and listen to vocal hippos as they emerge and then sink back below the waters’ surface.

Day 9 - Maasai Mara
Take in your last morning at camp before your transfer to the airstrip for your flight to Nairobi.

You will be met on arrival at Nairobi Wilson Airport and taken for lunch at Talisman Restaurant and some last-minute shopping.
After lunch, you will be transferred to the Crowne Plaza Nairobi Airport Hotel where a dayroom at is at your disposal until you transfer to Nairobi’s Jomo Kenyatta International Airport for your international departure flight. (B, L)

Baggage allowance: Baggage is restricted to 15kg/33lb per person including hand luggage (this includes camera equipment) on safari vehicles as well as on any domestic flights, as space is limited. Soft-sided luggage or duffels are preferable to hard luggage for storage on safari vehicles and on aircraft used within East Africa. Large suitcases of dimensions greater than 24" x 17"x 7" are impossible to store in vehicles and on aircraft and should not be used. (Baggage and personal effects are at owner's risk throughout the tour and baggage insurance for members is strongly recommended).
