Day 2 - Johannesburg/Maun/Okavango Delta
Fly to Maun where you will be whisked away by light charter aircraft to the Okavango Delta and your choice of 5-star ultra-luxurious safari camp. The Okavango Delta is a magical oasis of 6,200 square miles of islands and waterways dotted with palm-tree islands in the middle of the arid Kalahari Desert: a wildlife wonderland with superlative natural scenic beauty. This afternoon venture out on your first thrilling game drive in areas where wildlife abounds.
Mombo Camp is situated in one of the best year round wildlife viewing areas in Botswana. Nine luxurious tented suites are raised off the ground, allowing animals to wander freely through the camp. En suite bathrooms offer both indoor and outdoor showers. All rooms enjoy magnificent vistas including the sala, long veranda and lounge area taking advantage of the very best that the Okavango Delta has to offer.
Vumbura Plains Camp is in an area that has a great variety of habitats and species and diversity of wildlife. The camp overlooks a vast floodplain and large and luxurious rooms with private plunge pools are built under the shade of cool trees and raised off the ground on wooden platforms. You can enjoy a private 'sala' - a comfortable area to lie and relax, watching the waving grasses of the floodplain.
Jao Camp is situated in on a remote island in the heart of the Okavango Delta. The beautiful canvas and thatched rooms on raised decks are built under a canopy of shady trees, with indoor and outdoor showers and a private sala for afternoon siestas offering wonderful views of the flood plains. In addition to the lounge and dining area, there are two plunge pools and an outdoor boma for dining under the stars, complemented by wines from an excellent wine cellar. Jao Camp also has a spa where a wide range of massage therapies are offered.
Day 3 - Okavango Delta
Morning and afternoon game drives provide close encounters and incredible photo opportunities of Botswana’s abundant wildlife. You will surely be amazed at how close you really are! Leisurely mokoro rides along the canals of the Okavango Delta are a tranquil experience and provide insight into the smaller inhabitants of the delta - tropical fish flickering through the clear waters of the Delta, Kingfishers watching and waiting for them, tiny frogs clinging to the reeds. Or witness the red lechwe or sitatunga antelopes wading through the shallow waters. (Not available at Mombo).
Larger game species abound too. Elephant, Buffalo, Hippopotamus, Lechwe, Topi, Blue Wildebeest, Giraffe, Nile crocodile, Lion, Cheetah, Leopard, Hyena, Kudu, Sable Antelope, Zebra, Warthog and Baboons are all species found within the Delta. One of the largest densities of the endangered African Wild dog thrives within the Okavango Delta as well.
Accommodation: Mombo Camp or Vumbura Plains or Jao Camp (B, L, D)
Day 4 - Linyanti Wildlife Reserve
Fly to Linyanti Wildlife Reserve, passing over forests, floodplains and marshlands en route to your next camp, Kings Pool. Extremely spacious tented rooms under cool thatch are the utmost in luxury. All rooms overlook the Hippo filled lagoon. Take time to relax and enjoy your private plunge pool, sala and indoor or outdoor shower.
Linyanti is an enormous reserve teeming in wildlife, covering an area of 125,000ha (308,000 acres). The limited number of lodges & camps creates an unrivalled atmosphere of remoteness and vastness. Although the concession lies within the greater Chobe National Park, it has a distinctly different eco-system with the permanently- flowing Linyanti River forming channels and lagoons which provide a permanent water source attracting wildlife all year long. This abundance and variety of mammals includes predators such as lion, cheetah, hyena and leopard. It also provides a refuge for the endangered African wild dog. During the dry winter months the elephant population swells to several thousand!
After lunch and the afternoon relaxing at the camp, you will depart on an afternoon/evening game drive in search of nocturnal animals and evening bush activities.
Accommodation: Kings Pool - Luxury Tent (B, L, D)
Day 5 - Linyanti Wildlife Reserve
Activities today include game drives, night drives and guided walks in an area with abundant wildlife but most noted for its large elephant populations. Predators such as lion, leopard, cheetah, wild dog and hyena are regularly sighted.
When not exploring the area on game drives, relax in one of the camp’s two hides. You may spend your entire afternoon watching game come down to drink and at the underground hide, with the water at eye-level, you may see massive elephant feet and trunks almost within touching distance - an extraordinary experience.
Accommodation: Kings Pool - Luxury Tent (B, L, D)
Day 6 - Chobe National Park
Today you fly to Chobe National Park and your next camp, Chobe Chilwero, a luxurious riverside retreat in the heart of the bush on the edge of Chobe National Park. This ultra- luxurious bush lodge offers expansive views across the islands and terrain. Each of the 15 thatched guest cottages has two showers, one inside and one outside and a large free-standing bath. Chobe National park is definitely a must visit on any Botswana safari. The Chobe Floodplains and Chobe River provide a haven for wildlife to concentrate and Chobe River cruises are a highlight of this area providing amazing sightings of elephants, hippos, crocodiles and birdlife along its banks. During the dry winter months the elephant population is enormous and estimated to be the world’s largest concentration of elephants. Chobe is also renowned for its large lion population. Open grasslands and floodplains support cheetah, while the thick scrub, rocky outcrops and riverine forest provide an abode for the elusive leopard.
After a day of game viewing relax in your own private garden with a cocktail or if the fancy takes you, have your gourmet dinner served right there under the African sky. Game drives in open 4x4 vehicles and boat trips on the Chobe River provide awesome wildlife sightings.
