Lucille Sive on Safari in South Africa

The Lion World Travel Blog

Welcome to the blog of Lion World Travel's CEO, Lucille Sive. In this space, Lucille shares stories (both her own and others) as well as insight from her extensive adventures in Africa.

A sundowner, in colloquial British English, is an alcoholic drink taken at sundown. Think of "Happy Hour" while in Africa. It is common on the evening safari to stop for sundowners as the sun sets. Your guide stops at a scenic spot for everyone to enjoy drinks and snacks while enjoying the sunset and chatting about the day’s events, before continuing with a spot-lit night drive and heading back to camp. Stay tuned to this space for all you need to know about traveling to Africa, including casual chats with Lucille, expert travel tips, and recommendations.

Celebrating in Cape Town and Kapama

By Jordan Knoll

After visiting Tanzania in 2015, South Africa shot to the top of my travel bucket list. I was so blown away by what I experienced in Tanzania that I knew I needed to see more of Africa. In particular, I wanted to visit Cape Town and experience what a safari would be like in the Southern region of the continent. In November, my dream became a reality: Erin, my new wife, and I packed our bags for our dream honeymoon to South Africa!

A Life-Changing Experience: Implanting Microchips in Rhinos at Shamwari

Lucille Sive Implants a Microchip in a Rhino at Shamwari
January 4, 2017

By Lucille Sive

Shamwari Game Reserve is one of my favorite wildlife reserves in South Africa. It has everything I love about going on safari: luxury accommodations, amazing game viewing, and a strong focus on animal conservation. In past visits I’ve had a chance to see Shamwari’s wildlife conservation in action—I’ve fed orphaned rhinos at the wildlife rehabilitation center and I’ve flown in the TreadRight Bat Hawk, patrolling for rhinos in the reserve. As profound as these experiences were, nothing prepared me for the latest surprise Shamwari had in store for me!

In August, I returned to South Africa, one of my favorite countries, to experience our luxurious vacation package, Planes, Trains and Safarimobiles.
