The TreadRight Foundation

Created as a joint initiative between The Travel Corporation’s family of brands, of which Lion World Travel is a member, the TreadRight Foundation is a not-for-profit working to ensure the environment and communities we visit remain vibrant for generations to come.
The TreadRight Wildlife Initiative
Our planet’s vibrant biodiversity is central to so many of the experiences we offer at Lion World Travel. Providing our guests with the opportunity to photograph the Big Five – lion, leopard, elephant, rhino and buffalo – or witness the migration of thousands of wildebeest across the African plains allows us to achieve our goal of offering a unique travel experience with memories that will last a lifetime.
But we are committed to ensuring that the experiences we offer now can last for many lifetimes to come.
In order to do so, we have committed to helping the fight against poaching that threatens to wipe one of the Big Five off the map.
Over the past four decades, 95% of our planet’s rhinos have disappeared. Since 1960, every single rhino species has been brought to the edge of extinction.
And the problem is getting worse.
In 2008, the poaching of these increasingly rare animals began to rise dramatically, with record numbers of rhinos slaughtered on a nearly yearly basis since. In the past four years alone, an estimated 12 per cent of the rhino population has been destroyed.
In response to this, Lion World Travel and The TreadRight Foundation have now introduced The TreadRight Wildlife Initiative.
The TreadRight Wildlife Initiative brings together noteworthy projects under one banner, with the goal of helping to ensure Africa’s Big Five never becomes the Big Four.
In partnering with WildAid, the foundation backs an organisation with a successful track record in reducing the demand for illegal wildlife products by educating the public through poignant multimedia campaigns, prominent partnerships and an extensive international network of influencers.
With its support of The Wilderness Foundation in South Africa, The Foundation is supporting a project-driven conservation and leadership organisation that looks to protect rhinos on the ground, combatting poachers, and caring for rhinos in South Africa.
And, through Lion World Travel, The TreadRight Foundation continues support of the Endangered Wildlife Trust’s Rhino Conservation Project, helping the organisation deliver wildlife crime interventions at several stages in the poaching and wildlife trade chain, including care for orphaned baby rhinos.
TreadRight and its dedicated Steering Committee have selected these organisations for their ability and proven track records executing innovative and remarkable rhino-focused projects.
