Animal Welfare Policy

UPDATED November 2024

HOW TO HELP PROTECT WILDLIFE WHILE ON SAFARI

Embarking on a safari is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to witness majestic wildlife thriving in their natural environments. To ensure these experiences remain sustainable, it’s vital to prioritize the protection of animals while creating unforgettable memories.

Through our partnership with World Animal Protection, we are proud to champion a tourism industry free from animal cruelty. Every wildlife experience offered by The Travel Corporation (TTC) and its family of brands adheres to TreadRight’s animal welfare policy, rooted in the Five Domains of Animal Welfare.

TIPS FOR PROTECTING WILDLIFE DURING YOUR SAFARI

A small change to your phone and social media settings can make a big difference in safeguarding Africa’s wildlife.

WHY IT MATTERS

Did you know that geo-tags in social media posts can unintentionally aid poachers in locating endangered animals? When photos or videos are shared with embedded location data, they reveal the exact whereabouts of these animals, putting them at serious risk. By simply turning off geo-tagging before posting, you can help protect wildlife while preserving your safari memories.

HOW TO ADJUST YOUR PRIVACY SETTINGS

SMARTPHONES

  • iPhone

Navigate to Settings > Privacy > Location Services. You can either turn off Location Services entirely or disable it specifically for your camera app.

  • Android

Go to Settings > Geotags to disable location tagging for photos, or turn off Location Tracking completely by visiting Settings > Locations and toggling it off.

SOCIAL MEDIA PLATFORMS

  • Instagram

Ensure your account is private by enabling “Private Account” in your settings. When sharing posts, avoid using the “Add Location” feature to keep locations private.

  • Facebook

Open Settings > Privacy > Location Services, set Facebook’s location sharing to “Never,” and turn off Location History under Account Settings > Location.

  • X

Check your settings under Privacy > Location Services to confirm geotagging is disabled. Adjust these settings either in the app or through the gear icon when posting from a computer.
