Accommodation: Chobe Game Lodge - Suite (B, L, D)

Day 2 - Botswana Cultural Tour

Enjoy a unique Botswana cultural experience on a tour to the Chobe Enclave. On your way to the Enclave, you will stop for tea under a canopy of Mahogany trees close to Ngoma before continuing on to the Chobe Enclave and villages of Muchenje, Mabele and Kavimba. The scenery is fascinating – huge baobab trees, rocky outcrops, the floodplains and in the distance the Chobe River.

Your guide will share some of the geographical phenomena that shaped the incredible regions and point out the local practices in the villages as you make your way to the final destination. There your host family will be waiting to meet you at the village of Katchikau (pronounced Catch-i-Cow). Hub of the Chobe Enclave. This is the lunch stop. The hosts will explain each dish, what it is made from and how it is made. Katchikau is also home to some traditional basket weavers and areas to peruse a number of local arts and crafts.

After a hosted tour through the village, you will stop for a visit to the family cattle post - a 20 minute drive into the bush. The cattle post is one of the most fundamental traditions in Botswana life. Beef is a major export in Botswana and cattle-farming is important. The cattle roam free but return in the evening for safekeeping in the 'kraal'.

The journey back to the lodge is through the Chobe National Park along the Chobe riverfront. The sun is low in the sky and the light is perfect for photographing the famous herds of elephant as they make their way up and down the Chobe River. This is a wonderfully authentic way to get to know the culture and people of Northern Botswana and a privilege to combine it with a spectacular game-drive along the famous Chobe Riverfront.
